boy-london: The KTZ backpack. Part of the new Church Embroidery accessories collection, it features hand embroidered patterns all over. Recently this has been a main collection through out all of KTZ’s products and has been their most popular design as their previous Church Embroidery barrel bag sold out but are now available as made to order. Personally the church embroidery items within KTZ are my favourite I believe it’s the black and white and the contrast in the designs and also the religious connotations that do it more me, making this bag a personal favourite for me.

posthood: MATTHEW PALLADINO   SWEET RELIEF       February 11 - March 10, 2012Opening Reception Saturday, February 11, 4:00 - 7:00pm  Eli Ridgway Gallery is pleased to present “Sweet Relief,” an exhibition of new works by artist Matthew Palladino. In this exhibition, his newest and largest to date, Palladino utilizes sculptural relief to create painted objects that defy easy narrative understanding and categorization. Enamel coated plaster casts are made from commercial chocolate molds of nude figures, fruits, and assorted domestic objects.  Both pre-fabricated and meticulously hand-made, Palladino repurposes these molds to produce sculptural reliefs that make visual reference to his paintings but extend literally into three dimensions.  His deadpan reproduction of banal objects made twice functionless, removed by two degrees of separation from their original state as “familiar things,” highlights Palladino’s brand of dark humor that is an undercurrent of all his work.  Because the molds themselves are made specifically for chocolate making (for making objects to be eaten), the resulting casts also function as a playful critique of the tenuous relationship between the artist as producer and the viewer or collector as consumer.  Drawing upon the interplay between high and low-brow cultural production, “Sweet Relief” explores the histories of the ready-made and the hand-made, the naive and the sophisticated, painting and sculpture, and the infinite potential in between. Matthew Palladino (born 1985, San Francisco) has recently had solo exhibitions at Baer Ridgway Exhibitions (2010, San Francisco), Fredericks & Freiser (2011, New York) and the New Art Dealers Alliance Art Fair (2010, Miami). His work is in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art along with numerous private collections.
